Kikuletwa hot springs, located about 1.5 hours Southeast of Moshi, is an amazing oasis in the middle of mostly arid plains and Maasai country. ”Hot Springs” is a bit of a misnomer as the water in these springs is a pleasantly refreshing temperature that is just warm enough for you to enjoy the cool shade of the oasis all day and get a lovely break from the hot African sun.
The hot springs offers innertube and mask rentals and you can also enjoy a fun rope swing, as you explore two crystal clear, turquoise blue pools. Be advised that in some areas this spring has a heavy current and it is too deep for you to stand up. If you are not a strong swimmer, please rent a float for your protection.
The suggested itinerary below can be adjusted based on your schedule. You may also want to combine a visit at the Maasai village with an afternoon at the spring.
8:30am - Pickup from your hotel and transport to the springs. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the agriculture on the South side of Moshi and point out various points of interest. On a clear day, Kilimanjaro herself might make an appearance in the skyline!
10:00am – Arrive at the Kikuletwa Springs and enjoy swimming and floating or just relax in the beauty of this oasis. There are washrooms and change rooms available, but you may want to have your swimwear ready under your clothes.
12:30 – When you’re ready to eat and take a break, simply let your guide know and he will bring you out of the park to enjoy a local lunch or a lunchbox lunch. The shops have beer available to purchase. Only cash accepted.
2:30pm – Start your return to Moshi
4:00pm – Drop-off at your hotel
